Atomic Wings, PB Cups and Cinnamon Toast Dessert Club Sandwich..?

Oh, what a night. First off I'd like to preface this by giving credit to my friend Hal, who came up with this dish, because believe me, I would not have the courage to attempt this. And I also recommend you have a good dentist before digging in.

So Hal calls this his "Cinnamon Toast Dessert Club." So we already know that it is probably some sort of sweet club sandwich, perhaps even a triple decker. But the contents? Other than cinnamon, who knows. Turns out, it is toast with cinnamon sugar on it, and the sandwich IS a triple decker layered with peanut butter, nutella, marshmallow fluff and dark chocolate M&M's. Now, my brother and my dad would LOVE this because well A) my dad is a dentist so he can fix any problems that eating this may cause, and B) they both love sweets. Me on the other hand, I like sweet, but not too sweet. So I told the courageous Hal, I could do without the Fluff and M&M's, then I think you might have something. But he is a stubborn ass so he's probably reading this right now going, "she is sooo wrong."  Keep in mind Hal is the only person allowed to have opinions. Moving on…

Now this was an appetizer for our main course, which was wings and fries from Atomic Wings (multiple locations around the city). I was really skeptical about this place because I've passed it (the one on 60th and 2nd) many times and it looks like a hole in the wall. We ordered two half-orders: One single 1/2 and 1/2 (5 wings and 5 chicken littles, which are a cute name for chicken tenders) and one double 1/2 and 1/2 (10 wings and 10 chicken littles); we got one Medium and one Hot. I got the medium because I can't deal with too spicy, however I tried the "Hot" and it wasn't THAT hot. Anyway, the wings were actually REALLY good. Very meaty and very little fat with a good amount of hot sauce. Even the "chicken littles" were good, and really, not so little. I was picturing something like popcorn chicken, but these were full-blown chicken tenders and they were also very meaty. These come with your choice of 8 dipping sauces, among them bleu cheese, ranch, honey mustard, BBQ, horseradish and a few others. We chose ranch and bleu cheese, naturally. But it doesn't stop there. We ordered the "smothered fries" which are basically chili cheese fries topped with jalapenos, and we also got an extra order of waffle fries with a side of gravy. Yea, we don't mess around. Chili cheese fries were good, the chili was extra meaty though and I usually prefer more tomato sauce. The gravy was good too, and the fries themselves were nice; big, crispy waffle fries. Mmm.

This was definitely one of those meals that make you want to nap after eating it. I felt the pangs of indigestion coming on, but that wasn't going to stop me. Plus, who can have a good meal without dessert? Well I used a recipe from another blogger on how to make homemade peanut butter cups. They were actually quite delicious, except that I had to alter the chocolate used in the recipe because it kept melting. She suggested using real chocolate chips to make the shells, but I had a feeling Baker's chocolate would work better because it hardens better and faster. Fortunately, I was right. So if you click that link for the recipe, just do yourself a favor and replace the semisweet chocolate chips with 4-5 Baker's Semi-Sweet Baking Squares. I attempted it her way, but when I took the cups out of the fridge after initial cooling, they started to melt again almost immediately. Not cool. But definitely try this because it's one of those things that sound really impressive to make, but it's actually quite simple – no baking required!
