It's flu season. And while I don't seem to have the flu, I have the flu's annoying little cousin, Bad Cold. A cold is irritating because you still feel like shit but no one lets you get out of doing anything. Work? Happy hour? Family function? Yea…a cold is not a good enough excuse to get out of any of those. So FML.
For those of you who share my pain, I'll share with you this little drink I like to make when I'm sick. It's chock full of vitamin C deliciousness, fiber and iron. Oh and it smells DIVINE. Well, it smells divine if you like oranges, cinnamon and honey. If you dont, well then it might make you gag.
FYI: I have no name for this drink. And I tend to eyeball everything so realize these are my estimations.
1 cup water
1 juicy orange, peeled
1 tsp fresh lemon juice (if you only have the little plastic lemon-shaped bottle that's fine too)
2-3 tbsps of honey (I like a lot of honey, so this is a judgment call)
dash of cinnamon
Place water in a small pot and put heat on high (I forgot to mention an idiot could make this drink because there is no real method as long as it all gets in the pot and boils together for at least 10 mins). Squeeze the orange juice into the water, as much as you can, then rip apart the segments with your fingers (or if you're fancy, use a pairing knife) and drop in. Add the lemon juice and honey, stir and bring to a boil. Let it boil for 10 minutes or longer..just enough so the flavors can meld and develop. When it is to your liking, pour into a mug and top off with a dash or two of cinnamon. Go ahead, take a whiff. DIVINE. Keep in mind this drink doesn't LOOK good (hence, no pics), but it tastes good. And you need to drink this HOT. Not so much that you burn yourself, but trust me, it does wonders for the throat. That's what she said.
