Mother’s Day Specials

With Mother's Day not too far away, I thought I would post up some of the city's best Mother's Day brunch/lunch/dinner specials. There's so many to choose from, but my friends keep asking me where to take mama, so here you go…read and leave me alone.

Bice – This place is classic New York and the food is good, but it is expensive, so when I saw that their Mother's Day special is only $55 pp for four courses, I had to promote it. You could spend $55 on one entree and one app here normally, so this is a pretty sweet deal and the ambiance is perfect for Mother's Day – not too fancy, and not too trendy. Some of their offerings include Maine lobster salad antipasto, truffle butter veal medallions, and mango-topped red snapper.

Ayza Wine & Chocolate Bar – Wine & chocolate. Is there any other way to celebrate Mom? Or any special occasion? Or a Tuesday?? Ayza is offering a 3-course prix fixe menu (that sounds delicious) for only $39 pp. Some of the courses include Goat Cheese Brulee with toasted walnuts and marinated beets, Hot artichoke hearts with aged cheddar and ripe tomatoes, and Medallions of filet mignon with pommes gratin. Mmmmm..view menu here.

ilili – It's hard to spell and pronounce, but it's not hard to love. This mediterranean spot in Murray Hill has really good food (hooray for hummus!!), and they are offering a 3-course prix-fixe brunch with cocktail included for $55 pp, and $12 for children under 10, plus a gift bag with some goodies for mom. Brunch, free cocktail, AND you don't have to buy her a gift?? Sold. View brunch menu here.

Industria Argentina – this place is a little off the map, but the last time I was here I enjoyed it. They are offering a Mother's Day "Tango" brunch prix-fixe for $30 pp. Why is it called Tango Brunch? Because there will be Tango music playing. Duh. You also get a complimentary glass of "Rosé fizz" (whatever that is – I assume a spritzer made with Rosé) to go along with your 3-course brunch. Some of the menu items include Huevos Asados (baked eggs with provolone, smoked ham, tomato and basil) and Pamplona de Pollo (grilled chicken roulade with red bell peppers, basil and mozzarella, with creamy home potatoes and spinach). You can view the brunch menu here.

Kittichai – If your mom is a little more adventurous in her cuisine preferences (unlike mine), then Kittichai might tickle her fancy. They are offering a 3-course prix-fixe brunch with UNLIMITED mimosas and bloody marys  for $35 pp. Awesome deal. The food is really good and mom can get hammered. What more can she ask for? Some of the menu items include the Kittichai omelette with Thai sour sausage and jumbo lump crab, and asian five-spice french toast with Thai basil and fruit compote.

Osteria Del Circo – Feeling something fancy? And Italian? Osteria Del Circo is offering a great prix-fixe for $58 pp ($78 pp when paired with wine). Some of the items include homemade bufala ricotta and spinach ravioli in butter and sage (nums), lasagna alla bolognese, brick pressed chicken with cippolini onions and swiss chard, and chocolate tartufo for dessert. Dos Caminos – I think we covered almost every cuisine on here – and yet I almost forgot one of my faves! Make it a Mexican Mother's Day at Dos Caminos – they don't have a prix-fixe menu, but they do have some really tasty-sounding specials like lemon crepes with berry filling and rum piloncillo syrup, or bacon-wrapped corn on the cob with cotija cheese and chipotle aioli. Drool. They also are making special margaritas aka "Mama's Margaritas" made with tequila, lime juice, orangeflower water and champagne. How can you go wrong with tequila?? Well, in many ways, actually. I just got back from Mexico though so I might still be scarred from it… you can view their Mother's Day specials here.

And where will you find yours truly on Mother's Day?? Not sure yet. But there's a very good chance I will be at The Red Cat. They are offering a $55 pp prix-fixe menu for Mother's Day and um they have tempura fried bacon there. It's not on the prix-fixe unfortunately, but I would scale a 14-ft fence covered in cactus needles for that shit. So no a la carte menu will scare me away. Plus the menu sounds amazeballs. You can view it here.

Happy Mother's Day!
