Valentine’s Day Roundup 2011

FINE. So even though I may be against it, I realize some of you are not. I have to leave for the airport in literally 3 hours, so I'm going to make this quick.

If I were going to be taken out for Valentine's Day, the below are some places that I enjoy, in terms of both food and ambiance..

Scarpetta. You had to know this was at the top of my list. It's not "romantic" really, but the food is great and if you're not into super-romantic places, it'll be perfect. Just like the spaghetti. Read my review here.

Mmmm..

Crispo. I haven't been here in a while, but I remember being there and not only sincerely enjoying the meal (pastas especially), but I remember thinking "hmm this is a nice place for a date."

Bell Book & Candle. I liked this little spot in the West Village a lot. The food was good, unpretentious, and it had a relaxed-romantic vibe. AND they had popcorn panna cotta which was numsss. Read my review here..

Po. Another find in the West Vill. Launched by Mario Batali and now handled by Steve Crane and chef Lee McGrath, this Italian restaurant is small and cozy with good food, good desserts, and attentive service. They have to be doing something right – it's been there for 18 years. Read my review here.

Camaje. Alright, so I'm showin some love to the West Village. I used to frequent this place a lot back in the day, and I've even taken a few cooking classes there. The place is teeny tiny – smaller than Po, but I love the menu and the feel of it – it has a "home-y"-vibe to it. They don't even have a full bar last time I checked,  just a nice selection of wines.

SD26. I was just there for Restaurant Week, and if you're the "scene" or "trendy" types, this would be a good bet for you. Nice, spacious bar up front with plenty of room in the dining area so you'll feel like part of the cool kids but you'll also have some privacy. Read my review here.

Gotham Bar and Grill. This place is kind of old school, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, and turns out they have a prix-fixe, 5-course tasting menu for $125. Caviar, lobster and duck? My word.  Click here for menu.

Meatball Shop. There are no words. If you truly love someone, you will give them the gift of meatballs. 'Nuff said. Review here.

BALLS!

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Though I have heard good things about One If By Land Two If By Sea, Paris Commune, August, and Goat Town. Yes, nothing says "love me" like taking your bf or gf to a place called Goat Town.
