Monday Smorgasbord

The first week of Spring looks like fun – lots of interesting openings and oh heyyy it's Brooklyn restaurant Week. 🙂

Open

Untitled - Yes, that's what it's called. And it's just a soft opening today. Danny Meyer (one of my faves) has expanded his Union Square Hospitality Group empire to The Whitney museum. This restaurant is still not 100% yet, but there will be Stumptown coffee and Salted Caramel Pie from Brooklyn-native bakery, Four & Twenty Blackbirds. The regular menu has a plethora of food from many different genres like Huckleberry cornmeal pancakes, matzoh ball soup, parmesan-crusted grilled cheese (!!), meatballs and polenta, and probably every dessert you can imagine..  945 Madison Avenue, nr 75th st.

Brooklyn Star – Reopened after a kitchen fire closed it down in 2010, the Southern joint serves up the same menu with a few new additions like bacon and jalapeno cornbread. I need to go asap – how many places in Williamsburg serve Dr. Pepper ribs? Dr. Pepper isn't even organic..  593 Lorimer St. nr Conselyea, 718-599-9899

Social Eatz – I guess this is what happens when LOLCats meets I Can Has Cheezburger? On a plate? Top Chef alum Angelo Sosa has moved from sandwich shop Xie Xie downtown to midtown to open…another sandwich shop. Asian-inspired of course, and yes, everything ends with a Z. The menu consists of soup'z, app'z, salad'z, taco'z, burger'z, sandwiche'z and sweet'z. A little silly, perhaps, but the menu soundz deliciouz.  232 East 53rd St btwn 2nd and 3rd ave, 212-207-3339

Foodie Fun

Culinary and Coffee Pairing at Alma 33 – The new Argentinean restaurant has opened it's doors to Dallis coffee this week for a savory and sweet coffee-inspired meal. For $40 pp, you will start with two savory courses for dinner paired with specialty coffee created cocktails, then move onto two courses for dessert paired with specialty coffees. Here's a sample: coffee-chocolate mousse with brandy-glazed Bosc pears. Mmm..  Call Alma 33 for a reservation, 212-380-8794

Dine In Brooklyn YAY BK! Sorry. Just showin' love to my hood. This is BK's version of NYC's restaurant week, except it's slightly (only slightly) cheaper. $25 gets you a 3-course dinner and $20.11 gets you a 3-course lunch at select restaurants all over town from Mar 21st – Mar 31st. Naturally, I have been chosen to pimp out Williamsburg so I will say hit up some of these if you can: Loreley, Baci & Abbracci, Cadaques, My Moon, and Aurora.  And if you happen to be in Park Slope, Al di la is where it's at. Click here for full listing of restaurants.

Neopolitan Pizzeria Cooking Class at Rustico Cooking – Learn to make delicious pizza from scratch at this 3-hour class. Classic Margherita pies, Pizza with truffle oil and mascarpone cheese (nums), pizza with artichoke hearts, goat cheese and olives, you'll even make a sweet pizza for dessert with chocolate and apricots. Sat March 26th, 12-3 pm; click here  for more info and to purchase tickets.
