Thirsty Thursdays: St. Patty’s Edition

Cat-tie-st-patrick

Ah yes, St. Patrick's Day is finally upon us! The only day I can be convinced to do shots of Jameson and Irish car bombs. Like any other religious holiday, I have a feeling the origin and true meaning behind it will make us all feel bad about ourselves and the way we actually celebrate it. Take this little Easter excerpt from my childhood, for example…

3rd grade teacher: "Easter is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and honor his promise of eternal life".

Dara: "So Jesus has been resurrected in the form of chocolate bunnies and Marshmallow Peeps? Or do the glittery eggs hatch and Jesus comes out?"

I'm paraphrasing slightly, but the moral of the story is that I'm not exactly religious. Therefore I will ignore the real meaning behind this holiday and just support it the way most American's do: by eating and drinking. A lot. Almost every bar in the city will be having SOME kind of St. Patty's Day special, and fortunately for me and you, New York Mag's Grub Street has compiled a nice list of them. Bonus: they even give you a map so you can plan your own little bar crawl if you so choose. I have yet to decide where I'm going, but I have a feeling I won't remember it the next day anyway, so it doesn't really matter.
