Loreley

My first taste of Loreley was actually at the Get Real NY Craft Beer & Food Festival, but it had been on my list for a while for a few reasons: it's just a short walk from my apt, it's a beer garden (these are popular in the Burg), and they have spaetzle and sausage! Who doesn't love some good sausage? And beer? I'm not a beer connoisseur, but I'm getting better with it, and thank God because I ordered a LITER. Pics below – I literally felt like I was getting a workout trying to lift that thing.

The food at Loreley was good – maybe a bit on the salty side, but I like salt so it could have been worse. Hal and I got soups, wings and pretzels as appetizers; an odd combination, but WINNING nonetheless. Can't go wrong with a soft German pretzel and some mustard, and the German-style hot wings, which were really good. More sweet than hot, but I liked them.

Mmmm wings…

I tasted the sausage platter (shut up) when I was at the festival and I had about three servings of it, so I knew that was what I wanted again. Helping no. 4 perhaps? I let out a little giggle when the waiter put down the plate because well…I have the sense of humor of a 12 yr old boy. Hal got the spaetzle, which you can get with or without bacon. Umm. I will let you take a stab as to what we chose for that one. Oh and there was cheese too. Mmmm. Spaetzle is like an egg noodle/pasta typically served with meat. Only downside here was the cheese – it should have been a little creamier.

Hehehe

Shocked that I could still fit more food inside me, we got dessert, which was Apfelstrudel mit Vanille sauce. I hope I don't have to spell that one out…I think it's pretty obvious. In terms of taste and looks, imagine a GIANT McDonalds apple pie drizzled with a sweet vanilla cream sauce. Don't take the McDonalds comparison as a bad thing, I actually always kind of liked their apple pie. Was it a sugarbomb? Totally. But if you can handle it, go for it. I plan on going back when the weather gets warmer since they have a nice outdoor area. Sunshine, spaetzle and sausage…I can't wait!
