Monday Smorgasbord – May 2nd

This week in food looks like…Cinco De Mayo! In the words of the late, great George Carlin: "One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor."

Places I'd Like to Try ASAP:

The Dutch – Andrew Carmellini's new spot in SoHo serving up Hot Fried Chicken w/slaw and honey-butter biscuits, Smoked Ricotta Ravioli with tomato and fresh herbs, a raw bar, and Devil's Food cake with White Russian ice cream. Uhh hello…please look at this dessert menu. 131 Sullivan St nr Prince, 212-677-6200

Pop Pub – Just opened on Friday, this Pop Burger spinoff has a focus on, well, pub fare! With 15 beers on tap and a nice wine list, they have also added new menu items like popcorn shrimp and lobster rolls, as well as a breakfast menu (doughnuts, french toast sticks and eggs, naturally). Don't worry, you can still get the Invisible Burger.. 83 University Place nr 11th st, 212-477-7574

Junoon – Means passion in Hindu. And who couldn't use a little passion in their lives? If you just said "I have passion in my life", then screw you, I'll be putting it in my food. If you haven't tried Indian yet..I beg you to get on that..it's so wonderfully pungent and spicy… Click here for menus. 27 West 24th st nr Broadway, 212-490-2100

Places YOU Should Try ASAP:

Vai Spuntino Bar – I recently reviewed this place and it was awesome. I highly recommend for a chill night with close friends or a date; it's small and intimate with a nice selection of wines and good food.  105 Thompson st nr Prince, 212-226-1146

Momofuku Milk Bar – Uhh Crack Pie. And Candy Bar Pie. Need I say more? If you don't know what Crack Pie is…then this is why I say you need to try it asap. 207 Second Ave on 13th st. Don't call, just go.

Foodie Fun

New food truck Coolhaus will be camped out at Madison Square Park today from 12-4 giving away free ice cream sandwiches. Flavors include Nutella ice cream on oatmeal cookies (drool) and Earl Gray ice cream on brioche cookies. Um. I think you know where I'll be after lunch..

So many places are having specials for Cinco de Mayo on Thursday, but why have me type them all up when you can see them here with fun, colorful flyers?! (aka I'm feeling lazy)
