Some Bites From City Lobster and Steak

Still reaping the benefits of Restaurant Week last Thursday, I had a great meal at City Lobster and Steak in Midtown. Despite my fear of fish still inside their shells (and my fear of never getting good seafood in Midtown), I thought it was great; from the service to the food, everything was spot on and in some cases, better than I expected.

We started out the meal with shrimp cocktail and the fried calamari, aka two of my favorite seafood appetizers in existence. The shrimp might have been injected with HGH or something because they were so meaty and big. Loved it. The fried calamari came with a thai lime dressing and a side of spicy mayo for dipping – we got an extra order of the spicy mayo because it was that good.

Spicy, crunchy, meaty apps

The lobster bake was a 1-1/4 lb lobster steamed with mussels, clams, potatoes and corn on the cob. For a restaurant week menu, it was a sizeable portion, and even though I was afraid it was going to get up and walk off the table, I tasted some and it was very fresh. I got the Bahamian Grouper with scallops, clams, mussels, lobster and shrimp in a light tomato and clam broth. I normally don't really like clams, but this was delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was not fishy or 'clammy', with pieces of lemony artichokes in it. I ate every. last. bite.

ahhhhh…scary but delish.

Best part of Restaurant Week? Dessert is comin, whether you like it or not (you like it). We got the blueberry shortcake with vanilla ice cream and peaches, and the profiteroles with espresso ice cream and chocolate sauce. This was tough, because I'm normally a chocaholic and coffee-addict, but the blueberry shortcake was so seasonal and fresh, I loved the sweet berries and peaches sitting in a bowl of ice cream. The shortcake was a nice addition; a semi-sweet sponge that soaked up all the creamy goodness. NUMS.

 Hello sweetness.

I would definitely come back here, but I noticed that they don't have the prices on the menu anywhere for the lobster/main dishes, which is something steakhouses (or any uber-expensive restaurant) will do. I usually like to know what I'm getting into…so I guess I'll advise that if you come here and it's not Restaurant Week…make sure it's not "Just Paid My Rent Week".
