Monday Smorgasbord: September 12th

This week in food looks like..

Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls ice cream has been released, and the peeps over at Huffington Post did a taste test and were left unimpressed, calling it "odd" and "disappointing". So what makes a pair of Schweddy Balls according to B&J? It's vanilla ice cream with two different kinds of balls: chocolate covered rum balls and chocolate covered milk balls (malt balls). I have yet to try this flavor myself, but it doesn't sound nearly as good as Jimmy Fallon's Late Night Snack…just sayin. Sorry Mr. Schweddy. Read the review here on Huffington Post.

No Bake Makery makes bite-sized treats that spend a little time in the kitchen, no time in the oven, and a delicious split second in your mouth…but owner Cristina Suarez think's it's all worth it. Flavors of the week are the Daily Candy Bite (where I read about these things) with  chocolate cookie and Butterfinger bite topped with milk chocolate and a single Reese's pieces, the Vanilla Crunch, a rice krispie treat wrapped in vanilla cookies & cream topped with dark chocolate and sprinkles, and Oh So Smore, a graham cracker, chocolate and marshmallow bite drizzled with dark chocolate and graham cracker crumbs. Delivery to Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn is now available too! Click here to order..

Amazon Local Deal of the Day for Brooklyners is a 2-hour Food Truck and Cart Walking Tour for $24. You and a small group of 16 people will tour the sidewalks of BK, happily sampling grub from various street vendors along the way. Click here for more info on Sidewalks of NY Tours and click here to sign up for AmazonLocal deals.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is opening it's Park Slope outpost on Sept 14th. 164 Park Place is the address where the greasy deliciousness will reside..

Hot Blondies Bakery is giving you 20% off their new Lavender Blondies this week through Friday with code HBBLavender at checkout. Click here to check out their site and place an order. I fell in love with their Blondie and Brunette "Babes" this summer at The Smorgasburg..

Mexicue is opening their second brick and mortar location this Friday on the LES at 106 Forsyth st btwn Broome and Grand. The menu will be the same as the midtown location (aka expanded version of the truck menu) and the hours will be 11 am – 2 am. I just visited Mexicue in midtown this past week for lunch and thought it was good, but not nearly enough food to make it satisfying. Stay tuned for that..
