The Meatpacking District just got a serious upgrade. With it’s strict door policies, expensive drinks, and mildly dangerous cobblestone streets, it’s hardly an area I like to frequent. Until now.
Welcome to the neighborhood, Fort Gansevoort BBQ. And for the love of all that is holy, thank you. Thank you for bringing simple and delicious back into the vocabulary of this area, and thanks for making it so easily accessible. Literally. There’s a window on the side of the street and you just pop your head in and get a sandwich. *hears angels singing*
Now about that sandwich.
I don’t even know where to begin. The meat is tender, flavorful, with just the right amount of kick and crunchy pickles. The sauce on top is a mustard based BBQ sauce made with apricot nectar. Oh AND it’s on challah bread. Why you’re still reading this and not already en route is beyond me..
Can’t have BBQ without getting down on some ribs! The glaze is everything on these bad boys, and they have the three S’s I look for in a rib: sweet, smoky, sticky. I just made that up but I think it makes a lot of sense. Seriously delicious.
Did I mention that they have a giant smoker just right there in the backyard?
The space they use was a restaurant back in the day called 5 Ninth (I’m old) and if you remember that place, imagine giant hunks of meat slowly cooking to perfection where tables of awkward couples used to sit and sip wine. Fort Gansevoort BBQ, thanks again for making that go away.
