This week in food looks like…MY BIRTHDAY! Ok, I don't get the whole week, but I do get today. What does this particular foodie have in store for her birthday dinner?? David Burke? Le Bernardin? I guess you'll just have to stay tuned for that one tomorrow. In the meantime..
Opening Soon
Theater Bar: Albert Trummer's long-awaited project is supposed to open this Thursday. The bar is elevated, making it look as if it's on a stage complete with curtains, and the concept is centered around fun and flair; certain cocktails are rumored to come with a tableside performance. Sounds like it'll be quite the show.. 114 Franklin St. nr West Broadway, 212-334-3733
Open
Luna Park: I guess that means warm weather is on the way? Finally?! The Coney Island park will open this Saturday at noon with all new rides and rollercoasters. What better way to kick off summer than with a human slingshot?? 1000 Surf Avenue btwn W 8 and W 12 streets, lunaparknyc.com
Foodie Fun
My Birthday: You know it.
New York Loves Japan Punch Party at Summit Bar: Drink for a cause! One of my favorite cocktail bars in the East Village is hosting a cocktail tasting in honor of Japan. Pernod Absinthe, Beefeater and Belvedere have teamed up with mixologist Greg Seider to create six new drinks for Summit Bar with "Japan-infused ingredients". $20 at the door gets you access, unlimited drinks, and all proceeds go to the Japan Society Earthquake Relief Fund. Everybody wins. 133 Avenue C btwn 8th and 9th sts. No phone.
Sullivan County Harvest Dinner at Telepan: Tomorrow through Thurs, you can experience the best seasonal produce Sullivan County has to offer with this special menu by chef Bill Telepan. Think chicken and eggs with polenta, and lots of ramps. Ramps are big lately; most people don't even know what they are, so now is a good opportunity to try! Five course prix-fixe for $60, $85 with wine pairings. 72 West 69th St, 212-580-4300
Rosé and Truffle Tasting at Bahr Che: In honor of the first "blush of Spring" on April 12th, come sample some wine and chocolate! Vosges Haut Chocolat is the guest of honor, serving up their signature, kooky caramels and truffles, as well as a chocolate bar with bacon! Now THAT says Spring to me. 26 Astor Place (entrance on Cooper Square – very important fact or else you won't find it!) Email info@bahrche-nyc.com to reserve a spot.
Wine Tasting at Ardesia: A pretty sweet deal for this Saturday night – $30 gets you a 2 hour wine tasting class with 5 different wines and a sampling of Spring cheeses. Space is limited, so email info@ardesia-ny.com to reserve your spot.
