What better way to ring in the arrival of Fall than with a pie tasting and contest?? This Saturday, September 24th, both professional and amateur bakers from all over will come together to enter their homemade pies into this contest. And you can come by for a taste! Or two..or three..
The winner is selected (based on taste, originality and presentation) by the panel of celebrity judges including Johnny Iuzzini (pastry chef, Jean Georges and host, Top Chef: Just Desserts), Doug Quint and Bryan Petroff (Big Gay Ice Cream Truck), and Jordana Rothman (Food & Drink Editor, Time Out New York). Best part is $10 gets you admission to the event with two pie tastings, and $20 gets you unlimited pie tastings. Additional food and drinks (and more pie!) will be available for purchase at the event. If you think you've got a killer pie in your recipe arsenal, you can enter online ($15 fee), or register in person on the day of the event ($20 cash only at the door).
The proceeds from this event will benefit the New York Theatre Experiment's Lift Every Voice arts and education program. Since 2004, Lift Every Voice has offered leadership, performance, and mentoring opportunities to urban youth, who partner with professional actors, directors and playwrights to write and perform an evening of original works. Through short or longer-term residency programs in New York high schools, the program fosters voice and develops leadership skills by creating opportunities for experiential learning, creative risk-taking and self-expression. Above all, Lift Every Voice encourages students to tap into power and possibility in their own lives, using creativity as a vehicle for change and self-discovery.
