I know, I know.
Before you start questioning my loyalty to beef and bacon, you need to trust in my duty as a food blogger to never post about things I don’t actually enjoy. And I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Jones Wood Foundry is actually one of my favorite spots on the UES, and it’s from the same folks who own The Shakespeare in Midtown. JWF is a British pub, serving things like Scotch eggs and big, meaty burgers. So while I was skeptical of the new vegan menu, I kind of had a feeling they would do it right. Everything was delicious, and if you didn’t tell me it was vegan, I probably wouldn’t have even known.
My favorite item, if I had to pick one, would probably be the BBQ Sandwich. It’s a take on a pulled pork sandwich, but made with jackfruit. I don’t know who Jack is or why he has a fruit named after him, but it is one glorious, versatile piece of produce. It really can taste like pulled pork when done right, even in the texture! It’s kind of cool. The bread is also super buttery, without butter or mayo. They use a chickpea-based “mayo” and grill it up with that.
If you’re living that vegan life, you should check this out and let me know what you think!
