Sweet & Spicy Pizza Wontons

Who doesn’t love pizza? And who doesn’t love wontons? These are the questions I asked myself before making these little guys.

I was inspired by my love of Totinos Pizza Rolls, and wanted to try reinventing them with some different flavors. Enter: pizza with spicy honey. I mixed ricotta cheese with tomato paste, chili flakes, thyme, salt, and honey, then used wonton wrappers (or sometimes referred to as egg roll wrappers) for the packaging vehicle. Result? Great success!

I made a video for it on TikTok, so you can watch how easy it is right here. I didn’t measure the chili flakes, thyme, or honey, but you can eyeball it (or watch the video, you’ll get it). Then I sprayed them with cooking spray before air-frying to avoid a super dry shell, but you can easily bake them as well. You can also play around with different fillings – I imagine adding some chopped up pepperoni would be lovely.

Sweet & Spicy pizza wontons

  • 1/2 cup ricotta cheese

  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

  • Pinch of chili flakes

  • Pinch of dried thyme

  • 1/2 tsp Kosher salt

  • Honey (to taste)

  • 8 wonton wrappers

  • Water (for sealing the wrappers)

Directions

  • In a small bowl, mix together the ricotta, tomato paste, chili flakes, thyme, and salt. Set aside.
  • Lay out your wonton wrappers and place about 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center. Add a little dollop of honey on top of each one.
  • Dip your finger in water and wet all four edges of the wonton wrappers. Fold over like a triangle, then lift it up and pinch up the sides to create a dumpling/wonton shape. The video on TikTok will be helpful for this part! But you can easily just make them into triangles too. Just pinch the edges together to prevent spillage.
  • Spray the wontons with cooking spray and air-fry at 400 degrees for about 5 minutes until golden brown. And voila! Pizza Wontons.

Thanks as always to FreshDirect for the ingredients! #fdambassador
