If you’re a New Yorker—especially one with a penchant for food—you’ve probably heard of Kellogg’s Diner in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It’s been a neighborhood staple for decades, known for its 24/7 service and classic diner vibes. That said, it had fallen off the map a little in recent years, largely due to Covid and one of the owners passing away.
After it was sold at auction last Summer, Kellogg’s underwent a major menu revamp (thanks to new owners and chef Jackie Carnesi), bringing her fresh Tex-Mex twist to its beloved offerings. And let me tell you, as a Queens native, a 15-year Williamsburg resident (yikes), AND as one of NYC’s OG food bloggers – I can confirm that it’s 100% worth your time.
The New Menu: Tex-Mex Meets Diner Classics
While Kellogg’s still offers its classic diner staples (don’t worry, your late-night disco fries are safe), the new Tex-Mex-inspired menu items are the real showstoppers. Here are the highlights that I can’t stop thinking about:
Flat Nachos
Forget the towering, soggy, broken stacks of chips you’re used to. These Flat Nachos are a revelation. Think crispy, golden tortilla chips perfectly layered with cheese, refried beans, jalapeños, and in this case, steak. I’m sure you can get them without steak but that’s what we chose and I was pleasantly surprised at how well-seasoned and cooked it was. Still, it’s more about the packaging for me. Why don’t more people do this?? It’s like every bite is the perfect bite, whereas with regular nachos, you’re making a mess and often left with just naked chips. No thanks. Flat Nachos need to be on more menus.
Texas French Toast
This isn’t your average French Toast. Thick slices of challah bread are dipped in a spiced batter, deep fried to perfection, and served with a generous heap of cream cheese and strawberries on top. And obviously a side of syrup. It’s indulgent, comforting, and downright delightful.
The “BQE” Sandwich
A clever nod to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, this is Kellogg’s take on the classic BEC (bacon, egg, and cheese). But instead of your standard American cheese, they’ve elevated it with rich, creamy queso. It’s the perfect combination of breakfast and Tex-Mex decadence. And another moment where I said to myself, “why don’t more places offer this??” It was so good. Pro tip: order it with a side of their house-made home fries for the full experience.
The Atmosphere: Nostalgia Meets Modern Diner
The revamped Kellogg’s hasn’t lost its charm. The retro diner aesthetic is still very much intact, but the vibe feels fresher and more inviting. Diners back in the day always had this dark and “blah” color scheme, but this is bright and peachy, with those classic neon lights in all the right places.
Why Kellogg’s Matters to Williamsburg
Kellogg’s is more than just a diner; it’s a community hub. As someone who’s seen Williamsburg change dramatically over the past 15 years, it’s comforting to see a local institution adapt and thrive while staying true to its roots.
