Whitman’s Is Now Open, Serving Local Fare to The East Village

Whitmans Exterior

"A place to enjoy good food with good friends."

That pretty much sums up everything I look for in life.

New East Village eatery Whitman's is hoping to be that place for you and your friends. Just opened, the intimate space focuses on fresh, local ingredients and more importantly, burgers with cheese inside. Yes, modeled after the Minneapolis-made legend, the "Juicy-Lucy", two thin beef patties are pinched together around a scoop of cheddar cheese resulting in a "molten core of cheese." Who wouldn't want that sitting in their stomachs? Whitman's take on the classic is made with a beef short rib blend patty and they substitute cheddar with pimiento cheese for a little added kick. I like the way they think. They also have a burger with peanut butter and bacon on the menu…which sounds bizarre, but I actually tried one at Shake Shack once and it wasn't bad…wasn't great, but wasn't bad.  See below for their dinner menu and pics. Evidently they get their sausage from The Meat Hook in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (holler), which has delicious sausage; and I don't know what "Crack Kale" is, but I'd be more than willing to find it. I am cuckoo for kale. And crack.
